When I was five years old, my mother passed away. It was the most devastating time of my young life. But I was given the gift of attending Trustbridge’s Camp Good Grief.
I remember sitting around a campfire, writing letters to my mom and letting them burn into the night sky as I looked up to the stars. I remember tracing my body on big sheets of paper, and most of all, I remember feeling surrounded by other kids who understood what I was going through.
People often ask how someone so young could remember. But I tell them, I will never forget Camp Good Grief. It was a bright spot during a very dark time, and it truly helped me begin to heal. That experience shaped who I am today.
Now, at 30 years old, I work in the Palm Beach County Youth Services Department, using my own journey of loss and healing to help other young people find hope. The impact of Trustbridge’s grief programs is truly everlasting.
